Greater Seattle (WA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated Supplemental Support Scholarship


(for currently full-time enrolled undergraduate college students)

The Greater Seattle (WA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated was established in 1955 with a commitment to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the identities, culture, and economic survival of African-Americans and persons of African descent.

The Chapter has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships and grants-in-aid to deserving students in the Puget Sound region. 

A supplemental support scholarship is for currently full-time enrolled sophomore-senior, undergraduate college students in need of tuition assistance or who have basic or urgent need for financial support. A supplemental support scholarship will be determined on a case-by- case basis and are defined as follows:

  • Tuition Assistance
  • Basic Need (Books, supplies, laptops/technology or equipment)
  • Urgent Need (Medical/dental, food, and transportation)

A supplemental support scholarship will be awarded to students confronted with an unmet financial need during their academic experience. Examples may include but are not limited to the following situations:

  • The student requires ongoing financial support to afford tuition fees.
  • The student has exhausted available financial aid, both federal and private, and still has an outstanding account balance.
  • The student has experienced an unforeseen personal crisis (e.g., death of an immediate family member, a natural disaster, pending eviction, burglary, or fire) that has resulted in financial hardship and an inability to meet college financial obligations.

Student Eligibility Criteria

All students applying for the a supplemental support scholarship must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be an African American and a U.S. citizen at the time of application.
  • Be a full-time enrolled undergraduate college student with at least one quarter/semester completed.
  • Be able to demonstrate basic or urgent need for financial support.
  • Be actively enrolled full-time in an accredited institution of higher education including a community college, four-year college or university (*funding excludes online degrees
  • Be in good academic standing at their chosen institution of higher education.
  • Must reside (your residence when not in school) within Greater Seattle (WA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated's geographic and service areas in Washington State (King, Snohomish, Kitsap, Clallam or Jefferson counties).
  • Be able to demonstrate continued involvement in service to the African American community.
  • Provide proof of on-going participation in extracurricular involvement, activities, and/or life commitments throughout their undergraduate academic career.

Applications for a supplemental support scholarship will be periodically reviewed and awarded during the 2023-2024 academic year. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis in accordance with the Fall Semester: Applications are currently being ACCEPTED and are due on September 1st, 2024.  Incomplete applications will not be considered. Scholarships awards will be paid directly to the college or university. A supplemental support scholarship will be issued as a last-in awards, which means that after all other awards and payments have been cleared, this scholarship will cover the remaining balance.
