Description


Patricia A. “Hattie” Hatmaker taught physical education at Issaquah Junior High and Issaquah High School from 1963 to 1999. An award winning teacher and coach, she was known for her great sense of humor and boundless energy, as well as a person who continually sought knowledge and self-improvement. Students knew her as someone who truly cared for them and was a constant source of inspiration and support. Her spirit and determination were never diminished during her four-year battle with multiple myeloma cancer.

This is a $2,000 one-time scholarship. The award can be used for tuition, room & board (limited to on campus housing i.e. dorms, fraternities & sororities or other student housing recognized by the college or university) books and supplies, and lab and other class fees.

The criteria for eligibility include the following:

  1. Be a graduating senior from Issaquah High School.
  2. Be accepted by and attend during the same calendar year as graduation, an accredited two or four-year College or university.
  3.  Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, or have applied for US citizenship.
  4.  Demonstrate financial need.
  5.  Show achievement in academics.
  6.  Show achievement in athletics and/or other extracurricular activities.
  7.  Show commitment to community service.
  8.  Demonstrate strong personal character and the personal qualities of spirit and determination.

How to Apply:

To apply for the Pat Hatmaker Memorial Scholarship please register and create a SurveyMonkey Apply individual applicant account. To do so, please click on the green "Register" button on the top right of the screen, not the "Apply" button. You will be directed to a new page where you will select "Register as an individual" and prompted to enter your personal information. Upon creation of your applicant account you will click on "View programs" and search for the Pat Hatmaker Memorial Scholarship using the search bar. 

Please note that all application materials will be submitted online including the following items:

  • A personal essay (maximum two pages) responding to the following prompt:  Describe how you have overcome obstacles and challenges you have faced.
  • A high school resume.
  • One letter of reference from a teacher or counselor at Issaquah High School.
